Underneath The Coffin

Bury me
underneath the coffin;
I want to finally feel
the weight of your death
that I’ve carried on my shoulders
for, oh, so many days now.

Let me lie,
if only for one moment,
nestled deep beyond
the clutch of memories, blanketed
in the cool, damp earth.
Let me be
close, once more,
to your still, tiny form:
both too young to die
and too immature to live.
Let me, again, inhale
baby soft scent
and stroke teeny fingers in mine.

I lived for just one instant
- days, or has it been years, ago
when you came, gasping,
into this world.
For just a second, the twinkling of an eye,
I touched life
before death stole you from my grasp.

Bury me
underneath the coffin.
Sink my body far below the ground
and let me lay,
food for worms, till I dissolve
into the earth itself.
Bury me
underneath the coffin
- for I have been dead
far too long now.
