Should Have Listened

Things will never go as far as you thought,
Will never turn out as well as you hoped.
You should have seen through those lies you told yourself,
But now it's too late, and you're only being choked.

Still, all you can do is screw up every last chance;
You just want to hide away from it all.
But there's no escape to life's madness,
And you're left being forced to crawl.

Even the last person you thought you could trust
Has already given up this fight.
You don't know her, you never did-
I guess what they kept telling you was right.

She's a bottled up angel, with a heart-broken face,
And the right to understand her is more than she'll allow.
All you know is she only comes back when she needs you-
Guess she doesn't need you right now.

You'll only be sitting there and waiting,
Pretending you aren't jealous, pretending you don't care.
You may belong to her, but she never belonged to you;
And love is a simple fantasy that was never really there.

So you wish she hadn't lied to you for so long,
You wish she hadn't gotten so far into your head.
Because every time you try to pull away, it seems,
She's always holding on tighter instead.

And you can't get away from the hate and the hurt,
So you put up some walls, and fake one more smile.
You get angry, you get bitter, and you fall so far away-
To catch back up to everyone else would take a little while.

You're always left alone in the end;
If I've said otherwise before, it was simply a lie.
So as she walked away this morning, smiling unknowingly,
You turned around and whispered, "Goodbye."

So cry, little angel, cry, as the sky begins to fall.
Remember me? I'm that little voice that you foolishly ignored!
And look at you now, what are you worth?
You're nothing more than a flaky cunt, a stupid whore.

You're a screw-up, nothing more and nothing less.
That's the way you've been, and always will be.
You've been warned time and time again!
I guess you should have listened to me.
