What Death Left Behind

The time passing by so quickly you didn't even notice it at all
A terrifying scream echoing through your mind that won't leave you alone
Those blood-stained tears falling down your face at his burning pain
His image still running across the panels of your mind

Seeing him everywhere, remembering everything that he left behind
Knowing he won't be there to hold your hand or take away your tears anymore
On your knees you fall, giving in to the agony that was tearing you up
Looking at his face, you realized you never told him you loved him

Blaming yourself for what transpired, a dark rain cloud hanging over you
The pain you feel that you know is too real for someone to experience
You know he is still with you in spirit, or until he awakens again, even though he is now in the ground and off his make-shift bed
His death taking its toll on you, regretting never fixing things between you two

Feeling his presence with you each minute, hour, and day that goes by
Wanting to reach out to him, but not being able to; trying to move on as you know he would want you to do for him
Hoping that as your life passes you by, that the time when he left you would eventually be forgotten
Stars shining brightly, moon out, you wish for a second chance; a redo

By a miracle, he wakes up in his actual bed at home, your wish granted
In itself, the future singing to you, telling you its fortune behind it
That rain cloud now disappearing as the sun comes out and you smile
Your wounds now begin to heal themselves as you fix things between you both

Never do you take for granted anything you have, but keep it close to your heart
A lingering sadness in the back of your mind, you ignore it, too happy to care about it
Things begin to go back to normal, and then tragedy strikes your heart once again
He's gone. For good this time. Nothing changed. You woke up from a good dream.

Tears falling even faster than before; it had seemed so real
Wounds opened up further, and you begin to bleed nonstop
Wanting a way out so you could forget all of the terrible pain you feel
Beside you stands your beloved, holding your hand tightly in his own

As your eyes pop open wide, you wonder what had just happened
An angel standing beside your bed, warming your hand
"Stay here with them; I will see you at your time," as he kisses your forehead before disappearing like thin air
Confusion and disappointment settling in with your shock

On instinct, you smile widely, unsure of if you are still dreaming or awake
Hoping that everything will be okay you close your eyes again, very tired
Protected for life with your guardian angel watching you from above
Many many years later, you'd moved on, just as he'd always wanted for you

At times memories of him shoot through you unexpectedly and make you cry softly
Never will you forget him or what he'd taught you and left you with to continue
Vowing to live life to its fullest for him, you do just that, smiling for the first time in ten years
Everything now fell into place, your life pieces back together; he's with you everyday and always will be

Looking towards the moon, you watch as a certain star sparkles brighter than the rest..........
A guardian angel keeping his eye on you and your family, one you wish he could have been a permanent part of
Needing comfort, you glance at your daughter, seeing him in her; she was  HIS little girl, whose daddy was sewed in her dreams like a patch on a quilt
His memory never goes away; his voice used to chase away everything bad, and it still does; all you have to do is look deep in your heart

The sky showing its pathway for you to take as a rainbow crosses above
Your daughter pointing to it excitedly and you gasp; an image of your beloved stands before her and her little girl
He waves at you both and hugs his little girl before departing forever
Tears come down your face, but they are happy tears; your promise to him you kept and moved on; he gave you a happily ever after he couldn't give to you himself, the ultimate gift
