the lives and times of here and now

Shooting doves from a 9mm,
giving peace a chance.
Adopting smiles and sugar-free gum
instead of nicotine cigarettes.
I'll wait for newspapers to become unbiased
before I invest in their texts.

Love gave me its handshake and
it's on my side.
I couldn't ask for a better queen,
even if I had to rewind life.

i absolutely love this. the line "adopting smiles and sugar-free gum instead of nicotine cigarettes" is very cute yet very true and almost sad at second thought. i love that line. the only thing i would say is that the second stanza seems to get a little off topic but besides that its very well written. fabulous job

I usually dont get modern poetry, and am sure I did'nt really get this one completely either.. but i loved the medley of issues... almost as if i was getting a live telecast on your thought process...

I love the back and forth motion of this poem, like everything you say.. you also in a way unsay in the next line. It ties in with the title, I believe, because these really are the lives and times of the here and now.. this is what reality is like in this present day. I also liked the lines "I'll wait for newspapers to become unbiased before I invest in their texts." lol.. this is so true, the media is so biased. Some day I would like to be able to be given the truth in a way that is unbiased and you know.. true?

    Very interesting.
A short poem, but there's so much to get from it!
Fantastic imagey and metaphor, I wish I could pick a few of my favorite lines - but copying and pasting the whole poems seems silly!
I love what you've said about newspapers, I feel that way too!

    Interesting...

I really like the last two lines...and changing the cigaretes part is also nice...Interesing way of puttig it. But, my most favorite line was "giving peace a chance." I do not why but tht piece is stuck in my mind,,,i really like it, truly.

This is pretty good writing although I feel that the lines do not really play all together in a clear statement except to say that they are kind of abstract and not really connected to one another. But I like what you had to say I would only wish that you showed how they all interconnect together in more detail.I love what you say only would like to read more on this poem and I feel you should express more in it.I do like it though.

Great poem, I hope one day we can have good newspapers too. Im tired of all the worlds problems... especially bc we never seem to fix, just ruin.
