Under the Fig Tree

I hear desert wind whisper through the trees

“Shahrazad, Shahrazad, return please”

Peacocks serenade somewhere out of sight

As we nestle close to the fire bright

Your scent, sweet jasmine, takes my breath away

As I hold you in a desiring way

And when dawn breaks, on ripe figs we will dine

Basking in our love, so very divine.

The moon bides its time till sun again dips

When I hold you close and taste of your lips.

Such wonderful words, that painted a lovely picture in my mind! I absolutely loved this. You were right! Haha.

A great write and congratulations on winning the shiny. Well deserved. I knew Ylova would love it. I could've easily predicted the winners.

Indeed love, romance, passion and sensuality here and beautiful visuals too... made me think of an oasis and caravans in the desert (and i simply love deserts). What a fragrant scene you've painted here!

    Wonderful and musical ...

and good use of sound devices -- assonance, alliteration, onomatopoeia. I especially loved the second line and its beautiful imitation of the wind. A beautiful poem. Well done.

Thank you Myra, I'm afraid this was one of my hasty endeavors in the wee hours, but none the less I've made the corrections and thanks again dear.

Your words are most definitely beautiful, as always and filled with the love, passion and sensuality required by the prompt.

I got lost somewhere between serenading peacocks and the scent of jasmine and by the final line you'd taken my breath away.

My best wishes to you in the contest dear

    Love Margaret
