Autumn's Rain

It has come again, with red leaves falling
But the heart not the same
Just an empty feeling
Fall has betrayed

And I watch the empty streets
On my walk there's no shadow
just an empty feeling
and dead leaves

Fall has betrayed
my  four pawed friend
On my walk there's no shadow
he has gone with Autumn's rain

Goodbye my fellow friend
On my walks no more your shadow,
silent falls , my footsteps hollow
No more I cheer , so deep my sorrow

And I watch the empty streets
Just an empty feeling
and dead leaves
Fall has betrayed

I'm sorry to hear your dog is gone, he's figured prominently in many of walk poems, and I feel as if I met him from such. A beautiful elligy for a faithful friend...

    *hugs*

Awh dam! I'm so...sorry to hear this, and of your loss. But his spirit in all it's love for you, will prevail and awaits you in the next level of existance. I believe that in my heart of hearts! I still feel the essence of my own lill' buddy of 21 years around me daily. Even though I've asked loved ones who've passed over to care for him till I'm there too. He's frolicing about with others I loved too. I've several pets over there beyond this present existance. And human kind loved ones as well. As I'm sure you do as well. Bittersweet dedicational declaration of devotion penned here in verse. P.S. We still have a Maxie runnin round here with us too. But,a Yorkie. And there's also my lill' buddys best friend Westly Abner, the Westhighland terrier also.Oh,and Elvis our red checked cockatiel.

    I love the title

Aw, I'm so sorry about your loss.

I know how hard it can be to lost a pet. My dog passed on in December 2002 when he was only seven years old. I think it's one of the reasons I came here and started writing poetry about death and stuff, to deal with the grief, you know?

There was powerful imagery in this piece, too. I especially liked the second stanza, especially the part of being empty. Expressed powerful emotion and it speaks a lot of truth. When someone dies who was close to us in life, it creates a feeling of emptiness, like we don't know what we should do with our lives. Thanks for sharing and keep writing.

I clicked on this because I'm having an "Autumn Rain" contest right now and I thought perhaps this was an entry. I'm so sorry about your best friend ... I know how that feels.
