The Remedy

No pill, no syrup, no shot exists
To mend a broken heart.
Not even time itself could erase the scars
Of passion there once was.
No matter what you say or do,
Those moments always live with you.
Buried beneath layers of past You's,
But never quite out of mind.
The aching may dull to a bare throb,
Maybe just a pulse unnoticed.
But even diamonds lose their shine,
Yet there they remain forever.

I wish there was a remedy,
Some ancient way of healing this.
Time has smoothed away some scars
But the worst remains the same.
No matter what I say or do
Those moments live within me
Being buried beneath layers of myself,
But never quite out of mind.
The ache is but a dull throb,
Just a pulse, but still I notice.
Maybe this moment is losing its power over me
But in my heart it will remain.
