Jasper the Butterfly.

In stead of the knife
I reach for my permanent marker
and draw my Jasper on my arm.

In the hopes
that I wont see blood
flow from his wings.

That Jasper will help me to stop,
that the scissors wont pierce his innocence.

 I don't want to see
red tears flow from his eyes,
and clear ones flow from mine.

 I wont hurt him again.
Jasper will help.

Author notes

The Butterfly Concept:

Draw a butterfly on yourself with a permanent marker and name it. If you cut before it completely fades away, that means you killed it. If you don't cut until it fades away, it survived. But be sure not to make the butterfly fading away an excuse to cut after its gone. Just draw another before the other one goes away completely.

If the butterfly doesn't live, its ok, don't beat yourself up for it. Just start over!

Count your butterflys.

    That's an interesting concept.

hi Dani - Seemng as you enjoyed some of my writing I thought I might take the time to read some of yours before I go and watch the yellow jackets + mike stern here in Brisbane

I like this butterfly concept. I've never thought of something like that when helping friends who were going through cutting phases. I was much more a kin to finding solutions to emotional problems.

You've done well to illustrate a good use for butterflies. I hope that you don't really cut - leaves nasty marks for later on in life - you're too talented for that.

    anyways hope all is well,
    --Ben Byrne
