Stupidity
is defined as a lack of common knowledge,
usually frowned upon by all classes of society.
Education is the key to success, so they say.
I feel like an absolute idiot,
staring at the people around me
as they busy themselves with active lives.
I watch them, admiring their every movements
as I pick apart the stale muffin on my plate.
October is a cold, cold month
known for red leaves and hot chocolate.
I bundle myself in heavy sweatshirts
and double my socks,
the red ones from Switzerland
over the thin blue ones.
School is school.
A laptop connected to my fingertips.
The familiar ding of a new e-mail.
The tick-tock-tick-tock of the clock.
I sit with patience and count the moments.
I have fallen ill
to the familiar disease,
and it will take more than a lifetime
to find the cure.
The lack of sunshine has brought
darkness again,
and I don't know where I can find a lamp
to brighten up my days
and rid my body of this terrible teenage epidemic.
