It Is Our Differences That Make Us…

I sat right there—
In my ‘Thinking Chair’
Absorbing my mother’s heat
Cognition tap’d my window’s feet

The prism’d glass held a hypnotic flow
I recognized that voice though…
Capturing the seedling so
That budding twitch of empathic glow

Cool’d by a chilling, telling serenity underneath
I was draped; envelop’d in silky white sheets
My heart was touched; it milk’d me—
It cheated and skipped a beat

Welcome O’ gentleness
I was host’d by a gentle ms.
Shower’d by a whispy mist
Gingerly, I garnish’d a crystal dish

Her poetry buds had no taste for this…
So I thought some more, “I’ll serve the fish”
To me, so symbolic of life itself
Sometimes we have to choose from different shelves

Not one thing prepared me for what I’d find
Pure splendor’d beauty, in that poetic mind
Every page I pursued, left more clues
A metaphor-genius with golden news

“O’ say—nay, now I see!”
What poverty of written beauty—there used to be
At least, that’s how it was for me…
Until that faithful day I stumbled ‘pon alby…

Author notes

There are unquestionably times when we are positively impacted, affected by others to the point that it seems as if we cannot remember what things were like prior to coming across them. "albymyheart" is one of those kind souls who one rarely come across [ http://allpoetry.com/albymyheart ] A truly wonderful person whose writing staggers me...what an unbelieable gifted pen (and heart) she has been blessed with!

Such salutations indeed from the poet's pen...not retreating from an initial query...but holding a chalice to toast the truism that there are same differences within individuals and the individuality ...the crystal prisms...bought a relationship akin to a rainbow to the both of you...the employment of "ms" within added to a contemporary feel...Indeed a delightful dedication to alby and sometimes...sometimes when we choose from different shelves we do find another part of ourselves...

    Sweet

ahhh...Yvette. Howdy. I was wondering who this was but it didn't interfere with my impulse to respond to your generous commentary. Thanks for saying these wonderful things and for seeing all that you saw in this. Yeah, she's a great writer in my opinion. I have definitely been treated to the wonderful world of OZ. Can't thank you enough.

Thank you so much. Yes, you are very right (she commented about 8 comments below this). It had to do with me stumbling on one of her poems. She went to "return the favor" but found that what I had been posting mostly at that time was from a series my brothers and I were doing under our "4 Urban Poets: Urban Brag" stuff. Hence the part: "...Her poetry buds had no taste for this…So I thought some more, “I’ll serve the fish”..." Then she realized that I wrote other stuff too. As I read more stuff from her I recognized her poetic genius and it's had an impressive impact on me since then. Thank you very much for the wonderful feedback here.

    Interesting .

This is interesting however I am not sure that I am qualified to comment very much upon this as I really did not grasp your meanings, as written. You rhyme was good though.

Thank you very much for reading this. I don't think it is so important whether the 'meaning' of this got across or not (well, not in my head). What probably more concerning or meaningful to me is that you found some worth in this ("...rhyme was good though") - so I'm really pleased with that much. Since it's a dedication, I really wanted others to know how I have experienced "albymyheart" (the lady this is written in dedication to) so that was my only intent (no layered meanings).

    A beautiful dedication.
"Not one thing prepared me for what I’d find
Pure splendor’d beauty, in that poetic mind"
It really is amazing to be able to see a little of someone's soul without really knowing who they are. Your title is great. It is our differences that make us, and the beautiful thing about poetry is that when we are reading the droplets of someone else's soul, we begin to understand more of our own.

Thank you very, very much jadeangyal for these refreshing comments. I am truly honored. And how poetic is this: "when we are reading the droplets of someone else's soul, we begin to understand more of our own"? What a gift with words yourself...amazing. Thank you again; I appreciate this a lot.

This is undoubtedly a most beautiful use of words that express deep feelings and it comes with rhythm and rhyme that enhance the whole. Couple of points: I was held up by "ms", is this the word of address to/of a female or a manuscript? Whatever it actually is I find the use of the word awkward among the sublimity of the rest.
And: Do you mean "faithful day", that is, a day enhanced by fidelity, or should this be "fateful day", a day of notable consequence?
Finally I found this poem satisfying and a noble rendering of feelings poet to poet but was uneasy with the somewhat archaic: “O’ say—nay, now I see!”. All in all though a splendid piece.

Thank you so much for this incredible feedback. I have to admit, I was not prepared for this wonderful kindness and appreciation. You have done excellent with your use of encouraging critique too. Yes, I meant to write, "fateful day" where you noted it (thanks for pointing this out). Yes again, about what you initially concluded re: my usage of "ms"...just experimenting there... I'll edit for the "fateful day" part...let me think about the archaic ref. (I was being playful with 'that' particular phrase). So good to read these words you added here.

Well.......... You still write like a feather tickling the page (smiling). Soft, gentle words with images that float in the mind with a sense if wonder. This is dreamy and takes me to a special place in my mind. You have touched my heart by bestowing such honour on me and your kindness reflects the amazing soul that you are. Thank you for this beautiful poem dedication and simply for being you...alby (totally blushing now. lol)

Hmmmm...haha. Sorry about the blush-effect (haha, get? 'brush effect'? i.e., painting...lol). Honestly, after I stumbled onto your pages, I was struck by your vivid descriptives; your potent use of language; your amazing style and empathic calling... all of it. I guess it never occurred to me that someone who writes as well as you do (and so differently from me), that you would have even given me a second visit. But you returned to my pages over and over again. And your honesty and encouragement caught me off-guard. Thank you so much for that part too. Your are more than welcome for this.

I love this comment (hahaha)... I really can't thank you enough for all of your unbelievable positive feedback and kindness to me. Without any true sense of if we'll even be around for the next moment, it's important to me to try to leave as positive an impact as I can manage...trust me, alby's writings have done that and some for me.

Thanks a lot Swanny sir...(smiling). Glad to see you visiting this piece here. I really hope she does like it (or love it...haha). I've done several dedications before but this was the first of its type...I tried to mimic some of alby's style (but forgot to put that in the ANs).
