as my groomer comes to me, once again
but none like any I’d known before
as I’d grown so thin, with my skin so raw.
An angel tending appeared in the dark
dank, stinking mud lacking all fun or larks
I’d given up hope that this was my lot,
but she had her plans to definitely not
allow me to suffer no more.
Croons to me often in caring whispers
sapphire choice my hearts desire
Oh such tender loving strokes
our bonds as one that’s bound to fire.
Saddling up I’m brushed and spruced
slowly trotting scrapes the ground
moving out through the door
excitedly now I need to explore.
The air exhilarates,
accelerating my spirits to soar
I, snorting whinnies in spluttering spray
ready in wild abandonment gay.
Off we go approaching the gate,
leaping takes the bend
we’re on our way,
Flying, yes !!
We really are.
Zooming through the air,
no holding me now as we cross the fields
and no more worry or care
Author notes
3. Heart - warming and encouraging !!
4. Horse
1. Hardships and dangers animals face but how would that animal be better off, if the world were .. a more congenial place for that animal. Viewed from the eyes of the animal ..
In this case viewed from the eyes of 'Arthur' a young, severely neglected horse that my cousin Bills daughter Bec rescued .. she was just sixteen at the time and is passionate about horses (indeed all animals) and a keen equestrian, everyday devoted to their care
With her devotion, loving care and attention 'Arthur' is now recovered, and romps flying free in a large field with his two companions 'Teasle' and 'Eve'.
Many thanks to my wonderful, caring friend Karen and dearest sister for setting this up and allowing me the opportunity to share some of 'Arthurs' story.

s and so much
and a warm cheer to Arthur as he gallops and sprints in his caring fold.
But I am ashamed to say that I viewed a programme about this practice that you mention Karen. Although illegal in this country (UK) it was discovered that a known breeder had a barn full of horses in such a neglectful and disgraceful state horribly apparrently to be shot and shipped abroad, couldn't believe it and was appalled.
Although every asset was stripped from this man never being allowed any future contact with any animal I can't help feeling his imprisonment did not go far enough. Oh, that they all could be saved as 'Arthur' * . *.
I feel so sure that in your dream Karen somehow you were guided to their plight and were able to reach out with your huge warm caring spirit to these wonderful animals, you are indeed a tending angel

Wow! So very heartwarming.
It's so nice to read an encouraging story like this about someone who cares and loves horses enough to do something like this. And how rewarding for that person as well.
This was so beautifully portrayed 'Through the Eyes of An Animal' - the horse - a most noble and wondrous being that has been with us all throughout history ; serving us, being a friend and a companion. Then, what is society doing to them now? Discarding them, selling them across the U.S. border to be slaughtered for human consumption in foreign countries, skinning them. Yes, I found out just recently that horses are being skinned; in some cases, while they are still alive.
I was appalled. And, do you know how I found this out? I DREAMED about it. A horse that had been skinned alive came to me in a dream. I couldn't believe it! I did all that I could to comfort the poor, suffering creature. I researched it and sure enough, I found out that they are selling horse skin in Canada. I am sorry any Canadians here; but this is what I discovered.
We have come a long way here in the United States with the last slaughter house for horses being shut down. There is still a fight ahead, because now horses continue to be shipped across the U.S. border to Mexico and Canada, (yes, Canada - again, I have a lot of Canadian friends, and I am not suggesting that any of you support this), to be slaughtered for human consumption. The way these poor horses are shipped is horrendous as well.
Here is a site about it. Not to upset you. For anyone who cares to read about it who cares about horses.

Thank you for this wonderful poem! It is so uplifting to read about people who care and animals that are saved. I really felt for Arthur in your poem and how he gave up and then an Angel appeared and took him to Paradise. It made me cry. Very inspirational and leaves one with a sense of hope. -
Thankyou my dear Wolfie

Touched my heart deeply. I hate to see animals neglected or abused. Every animal deserves to be well-cared for and loved.
