“So how was Ramadan?” I asked
Tariq and Hassan,
the twins from Tae Kwon Do
who are about 10 years old.
“It was hard, this time,”
one of them said –
I can never tell them apart.
“Yeah”, said the other
“the days are longer
when it’s closer to summer.”
Nothing to eat
from sunup to sundown,
ten year old boys,
a month of such discipline
and sacrifice.
I admire this practice
in my Muslim friends.
