Would it be selfish
to give to the future,
that which I hold dear?
Friends, family, fun,
why would the future care?
Would it be morose
to show the world,
snapshots of hell?
The vigor of destruction,
that we left as a legacy?
Would it be appropriate
to pen a tale of greed,
the raping of the weak?
To feed the glutton’s coffers,
preserving our inaction?
Would it be worthy
to leave a soundtrack,
singing songs of hope?
To show we persevere,
if even just by our fingertips?
Would it be better
to leave nothing,
just an empty chest?
In the overwhelming hope,
that the future will forget us?
