When you look at me,
what do you see?
When I look back at you,
I don't view a reflection
of me.
But when you look in my eyes
you see you.
And it makes me want to cry.
Your eyes were my mirror
then one day your eyes and heart
became clearer
for me to understand,
that all this time you weren't my man.
If you just took one good look at me...
What do you see?

This is a great write. I know the feeling of having someone look at you and not know what they truly see. They tell themselves they see something different, something they want to see. But in it all, they deny us and who we really are.

This is an interesting take on the prompt - I like that you have a tone of strength and almost defiance in the last lines
I think that maybe if you broke this poem/lyric set up into stanzas/verses then it would have more of an impact - but that is just my preference I love the emotion in this piece though!

So so true
So many times I've seen this
A man doesn't truly want you to see yourself in his eyes
They don't want to see themselves in yours either.
But just remember that not all men are the same
There are many out there that would die to be "your man"
I'm sorry that you had to encounter this kind of situation.
Be strong my friend.
