The beginning, the middle, and the ending

In the beginning
you were there
in my belly.

I would rub it
and you would kick
and I knew you were there.

In the middle
I held you in my arms.
Saw your little toes
and fingers.
Counted each and every one
and was proud
to say that you were mine.

In the end
I watched
as they covered you with rock.
Buried you in the cold
dark earth.

The tears came then
and I
heart-broken
left you
alone.
In the cold.

What a heartwrenching piece. Tugs at my heart and leaves a lump in my throat. Beautifully penned. Good luck in the contest!

The death of anything is hard but the goodbyes a mother says to a child rips the soul from you. I am sorry for your loss. C
