orient express.
the cell phone clock
is gourmet for death.
in front of me, caustic chairs
spin. the waltz of departure.
i confide
in a stranger
that i hate
the tick-tock,
that it leads me
to a mountain peak
envied by many
where a peppered pillow
awaits me.
a peppered pillow
and misty research papers,
cellulose full of hope
that one day
my intellect will reach neptune.
that one day
poseidon will take pity
on this sick healer.

There, now I'll make myself study.

I hate myself.
just kidding. Or am I...?

Much deserving of gold and I congratulate you. This was a nice contest to participate in and many lovely entries ensued.

I love the research papers part of this poem - and the part about neptune made me happy
confiding in a stranger can have unexpected but happy consequences - especially on trains - and you referenced one of my favorite books too! Thank you for this entry
Keep writing
Polly

One of your favorite books as in the Greek mythology?

'cause that's the only thing I referred to intentionally, but I'm curious what my readers get out of it.
Thank you! Your comments are always a good way to cheer up

i love everything about this
'cept... i would love this:
and misty research papers
with cellulose full of hope
that one day
my intellect will reach neptune.... without "with" i don't think you need it... if you use a comma or semi-colon after "papers"... just a thought.

Thanks

Yeah guess you're right, a comma would work better
