Fact of the Facts

Nomie couldn’t see why a fact was so
So he said unto himself – he said, I do not know
Is a fact a fact – a fact that it is so
I’m not sure that that’s a fact
But then – I do not know

So he said to tamba – a bear of factual thought
Tamba, I’ve a problem and your knowledge I have sought
Is it right for me to say a fact is what it is
Or is it something else again I’ve not yet learnt to quiz

Tamba with his store of thought said Nomie you must see
A fact is but a fact of life for all eternity
Then Nomie brushed his whiskers and shook his tiny head
It was thus a fact that he had not got what was said

So he said to Sheaber – a dog who lived nearby
I understand a facts a fact but I do not know why
And Sheaber said to Nomie – what Tamba says is true
A fact is just a fact of life which answers it for you

You see he said – a facts a fact, and we are facts as well
And it’s a fact that it is so – so what is there to tell
But Nomie couldn’t see why a fact was so
So he said unto himself – he said I do not know

Author notes

Just a silly little poem written way back in the eighties. I was crazier then than i am now. Go figure!

I love this little play on waords about facts. My school teachers always said; challenge ant facts you may be given, ask why. Nomie has done that and received the usual answer, but not why. Interesting concept. Are facts facts or are facts simply someone's ideas touted to be facts?
Gives the mind a bit of exercise when you think outside the square. Well done.

Thanks for reading 'fact of the facts, Bob. These little guys are characters in a story i wrote for my niece years ago. I just stumbled across this poem in my collection and thought it would be interesting to see what people saw in it.

Behind the cute face of this piece

hides a deep, dark mystery. I like the use of allegory. It puts the hardest of questions, "what is real?" into the simplest of terms.

One thing. I know Tamba is a bear and Sheaber is a dog. Is Nomie a rabbit? I'm guessing so, since the background shows one.

    Good job with this.

    Delightful

“…a fact’s a fact.” Reminds me of Charles Dickens’ Hard Times: “…fact, fact, fact!” It’s delightful, I think
