Galt Aureus is such a band, and Heralds to the Sun is their spectacular debut album.
The juxtaposition of classical (the really old kind) with modern rock instruments, fused with intelligent lyrics creates a beautiful new audio adventure.
Anyone who's spent their life listening to various genres would admire artists who defy categorization. Numerous bands claim to do just that, but few deliver on such a wild promise. After all, the number of crossover and cover-song-playing musicians proves there is a mere illusion of originality, facilitated by marketing exclusivity.
Those who would try to classify this group could never fully appreciate the sound as a whole. Likewise, if one would dismiss them based on preconceived notions would be doing themselves a disservice.
They could be called prog-rock; they could be called retro rock. The paradox in itself only hints at the sheer genius of their debut album Heralds to the Sun. They'd even appeal to some of the emo crowd. The songs feel epic, like they cried out to be created by a multi-talented composer. Not only did Saher do lead vocals AND backing vocals, but the piano parts, and guitar riffs. He also played the part of producer.
In addition, the artwork of the CD cover (as well as the website) is curious and inspired. If one thinks Latin is a dead language, this musical group disproves that easily. Because of the singer's enunciation, one feels like singing along and can, while perhaps adding to their vocabulary.
If that's not enough enticement to favorite them on YouTube SBGALT, or befriend them on Myspace GALTMUSIC, take note that the singer is good looking to boot! A winning combination, especially in the day of faux beauty and manufactured talent.
Order a copy of the CD HERALDS TO THE SUN or download the mp3 version of it from CDBaby.
If the inspiration hits to learn how to sing, Saher gives vocal lessons on YouTube, in person, and via CDs- more information can be found at www.galtmusic.com
Oh, and for fans of Ayn Rand and Objectivism, they have just opened a store called The Arrogant Atheist where you can wear your support.
