Normality

Laughing, and smiling,
And dancing in the snow;
Just two kids so full of spirit,
Made them shimmer all aglow.
There were good times,
And there were bad,
But we always had each other;
Do you remember that?

Way in the beginning, before everything started,
Life wasn't so difficult, at least there was more that we'd allow.
Being naive, maybe, but we really couldn't care,
Because we didn't have to fake it, which is more than what we do now.
And we could talk like there was no tomorrow,
Just sit down and chat our lives away.
We never thought such a happy time would end,
But nothing's really forever, so even normality can't stay.

Still, do you remember?
Can you remember and not cry?
Can you look back and smile at those times
When we could hold our heads up high?
Things weren't always this rocky,
Things weren't always so tough.
They were different, they were light,
And they were never so rough.

So much for taking chances, so much for trying to risk so much,
Because they wound up so different from what was expected, who knew?
Guess all we can really do now is look back and smile,
But, Darling, just so you know, I miss that normality with you.
