Grandma Farlyne

Memeories remain forever for children in time,
places and faces for a child so divine.
They absorb all about them so let their memories be blessed,
and bring back love to be shared with all the rest.

Grandma Farlyne is my memory as a child,
she had her sweater always and sitting in her old chair with a smile.
Old she was but she could truly shine and had a sparkle in her eyes,
and gave the young people all her love in her life.

That old chair set outside beneath an old cottonwood tree,
and everyday children would try to sneak up on me.
Sometimes I appeared to be asleep,
and the neighborhood kids would get in their hiding places they thought I couldnt see.

She always had a book for stories  out loud she would read,
and she never acted like she saw me .
Oh her expressions as she read often brought a smile,
and I learned so much from Grandma Farlyne all the while.

One day she was reading a story and began to cough,
I moved out from my hiding place to help her after all.
She took my hand and told me thankyou with her eyes,
then as I tried to pull away she whispered honey its alright.

I have so enjoyed your visits and these stories were for you,
You brought me sunshine but I thought you knew .
I relaxed and told her I wish I could read,
and she smiled and told me then you will wait and see.

Every day we worked on my reading as I sat in her lap,
she and her old chair and wool sweater I so miss now.
I inherited that old chair the day she passed,
and yes her old wool sweaters in draped over the back.

I have strived to be the one today,
to be a memory for the children along the way.
Reading storeis outside to draw the children in,
its a way to bring life to that old chair and that old wool sweater and Grandma Farlyne.
