Nonexistent Comforts

I find comfort
in the rocking chair
that I never had
and the homemade quilt
I've never touched
but leaning against each other
in some closet
I've never heard of.

I think I'll find the closet, one day
working the janitor's job
that I'll never experience -
maybe a bit dusty
from old sneezes
and a bit sticky
from ABC gum -

but still containing
the warm quilt and chair
to rock in and doze off
in front of a nonexistent
fireplace.

Author notes

Probably doesn't fit in with the contest. My usually pitiful randomness.

    This was rather good, daydreaming of the nice things, which we only experience in our own minds. Even so, they are still a form of reality. I like the concept of the idea;
Nicely done and good luck in the contest too.

I'm sure I've read the poem that was never written but for the life of me can't remember the words.
Another excellent piece of poetry. Your thoughts are much deeper than the credit you allow yourself.
I am very thankful to have found you on AP. Keep writing!
    Peace in light and love

it's not pitiful so stop apologizing for your work.

it's whimsical and playful and abstract and can be interpreted in many different ways... It makes you think and that's always a good thing.

I like the opening stanza the best. finding comfort in things you don't have but can conjure up because what you do have is imagination

the second one is fun playing with the reader's mind. how do you find something that doesn't exist? it's simple - you do that by working a job that you won't have. two negatives make a positive right?

the nonexistent fireplace is just the cherry on this very delicious nonexistent cake. yum
