The Calling

Eyes of alabaster stare blankly in the night
waiting for the signal that will bring the light.
Rising from the grave at the conch’s call,
responding to a sound that’s not heard at all.

An arcane instrument, used to call to prayer,
has its roots in battle, where sounds filled the air.
This is a war of sorts between life and death
as she prepares to feed on those who still draw breath.

Death lilies are the bouquet of this demon bride
whose beautiful exterior hides the rot inside.
Gone is the warmth of life but existence still remains
as she feeds on other’s fears and other’s pains.

She waits in silent slumber, patient so it seems
until she hears the calling and enters the world of dreams
where she intensifies your darkest fears while you are unaware
as devours your happiness.  She is your nightmare.

Late at night you toss and turn, trying to get free.
No need to fear, she’s just a dream…
                                        …or is she reality?

this poem is brilliant I absolutely love it.. the rhyme flow is outstanding.. the imagery is awesome, very dark & vivid. I must say though my all time favorite lines are these ones:
"Death lilies are the bouquet of this demon bride
whose beautiful exterior hides the rot inside."

    Good luck in the contest
