A Goth Childs Dead Time Story (Hungry Annie 2)

When last I left, in tragic jest,
Annie made a meal of her Parents
One slice of cheese and lettuce leaves
with miracle whip to complete her sandwich

At Grandma’s house all proper and prim,
little hungry Annie stood with a grin
In her white dress and black maryjanes,
a bright pink hair ribbon and waist sash the same.

Grandma stared at this little spoiled child,
and knew something deep was running wild
A hunger growing so deep inside
that only a feeding could truly subside.

Annie smiled and then she spoke, “Gram, let me stow away your coat.”
With great care she hung it above the steam trunk
then said with a smile, “My Grammy, you are quite plump!”

Grandma looked at her narrow eyed
and with sharp tongue gave her reply
“Why you evil, little, vile, beast,
that’s no way for a small guest to speak!”

She flopped down her purse and stomped her feet.
“One more word and you’ll burn at the seat!”
Annie smirked as she apologized,
but in her mind she knew she had lied.

Grandma spoke “Go wash up your face and hands,
then meet me down in the kitchen stand.”
Annie made back quite clean and spiff,
and sat in her chair before a plain white dish.
Raised a teacup to her dainty pink lips
and took the tiniest of little sips.

Grabbing a knife from the cupboard drawer,
Grandma sliced rye loaf into squares of fours,
and from the icebox a hunk of sharp cheese
some sprouts, tomatoes and buttered spread cream.

Sat at the table with napkin in lap
raising her brow and said, “ What are you looking at?”
Annie replied “Why, at your hams!”
let out a giggle and said. “ I mean your hands”

Grandma huffed a muffled sigh
and said in  harsh  tone “I will not be tried!”
“Now eat your veggies, bread and cheese”
Then Annie screamed back “I want meat!!”

Then she jumped up onto the table,
her little nimble body so agile and able
Now inches from her Grammy’s face,
she yelled “ I’m starved so don’t give me chase!”

She grabbed the cheese cleaver making her chops,
carving whole pieces from bottom to top.
As you could imagine there was quite a scuffle,
but Grandma didn’t put up so much as a ruffle.

She was neatly laid out; all quartered and drawn
Annie only wondered, “Is there any grey poupon?”

She then cleared the table,
made every dish clean,
then out the front door thinking
It’s almost Halloween.
