Your lips are painted red as sin;
Cold to the touch, inside and out.
It brings out the blue in your skin.
I cover you with whispers and roses.
I breathe you in; rotten-sweet,
The perfume of the grave
Where life and death meet.
True love never dies.
My fingers map out your curves,
Swollen and mottled gray.
It's not the life we deserved,
But you're so beautiful in the candle light.
You dance through my head
Dressed all in white.
We vowed love forever instead
Of until death do we part.
Inside you I am whole,
Laying my hand upon your breast;
The unbeating heart you said I stole.
Inside you I can think, feel and breathe.
Slowly you rot away from me,
Flesh shrivels towards bone.
My need for you won't set me free;
The solace of our bodies entwined.
Still, I only live for your touch,
I need you to get through the night.
I've always loved you too much
To ever let you go.
Author notes
I'm not sure whether to place this in option one or two, it kind of fits both. Um just to be clear, this is in no way rooted in truth.

Awww! Was my first response. This is almost the ultimate love poem... love transcending death (wow that's a big word) in both a literal and figurative way.
I also LOVE that the first and third lines in each stanza rhyme, as opposed to the more common ABCB pattern.
Overall I am extremely impressed. Good luck!
