I don’t know this person
Staring back at me
With tears in her eyes
And pain in every line of her face
Her brown eyes
Hide dark secrets
And they eat her alive
Causing her misery
She loves so deeply
Just to have to hide the bruises
And wear a silver ring
That he makes her regret
Memories from her past
Are like daggers
Dragging her happiness
Through their darkness
Lines of worry line her mouth
Her breaking heart
Has her on the edge
She can’t take much more
White scars of the past
Line her wrist
And her old razor blade
Is calling her name
Death is waiting
In the shadows under her eyes
Waiting for his chance
To strike her down
And as I realize this
As I stare into her eyes
I realize who this tainted and scarred
Girl really is…
This is me
And the darkness
I’ve allowed myself to fall into
This is me in the mirror.
