The Bush Man

Missing image

I stood nearby on a bustling sidewalk
wearing an inconspicuous grin
while watching his juvenile antics
and youthful gaiety
as he never seemed to tire
of the same prank
or the mixed reactions
of random strangers

[an immediate performance review]

the human tendency to overlook fine details-
becoming mechanical and robotic
in a monotonous crowd
continued to amaze me

and it dumbfounded me even more
that mere moments before
I was guilty of the same sin.

Author notes

There is a guy, dubbed the "bush man", who camouflages himself as a bush (by using actual foliage) and sits on a sidewalk in San Francisco scaring people passing by.
He has been met with various reactions, complaints and legal charges.
I have had the privelage of actually seeing him in action and found him to be inspirational. It amazed me how easy it is to ignore the world around us that we don't notice a guy holding tree branches sitting on a crate until he yells "Ugga Bugga!".
I think we could use more light-hearted people as him-
who seem to find sheer enjoyment from the simple things.

Yeah, walk into a room that you haven't been into in a long time and notice how you see so many things you just ignored before. It's quite surprising how much you never noticed. There have been a lot of examples done to show us our inability to perceive and this man whether he knows it or not is providing yet another.

But most of all, your poem is well written and interesting.

Yes, I agree. I find that I sometimes drift off in thought and no longer realize what is actually around me.

I liked this write. I got a very clear picture of the bush man, and I enjoy your analyzation of his apparent motives for doing what he does. thank you for entering my contest

I actually liked thinking of ideas for this contest because it allowed for the whole thinking outside the box thing.

These are the type of people I live for. What motivates these people to do the things they do!?!
Good write on this subject. This is exactly what I was looking for!

      Yes, I must agree! lol.
I often wondered how he started doing such and what gave him the novel idea. Whatever his reasons may be, I absolutely admire him. This is something I picture myself doing if I get a chance to retire.
