A multitude died tonight,
without a shred of sorrow
or a tear loosed from vacant eyes;
each in rooms with familial drones,
hiding behind cathode ray closets
that grinned and spat mediocrity.
Sitting in silence,
they never told a soul.

strong; just what I like to see.

That is why family dinners were so important when we were young...very nicely done and so sadly true...we have lost the ability to talk and know how others feel...well done...
thank you for entering!

Thank you very much. Same here, every Sunday it was off to Grandmothers for big family dinner, even that slowly diminished over the years.

The ever golden silence family rule. Everyone talking...no one hears or really stops to listen anymore. Sad really when you think about it. So many teens in trouble these days screaming to be heard.
Interesting poem. Silence is not golden...only forgotten...

Thank you. Very true, either that, or no-one talking because they have no time, because they are too dedicated to their latest gadget, whether that be television, computer/internet, phone etc.

Thank you. It's about lack of communication, particularly in families in the modern world. We surround ourselves with the latest communication devices, yet we talk to those we are closest to less and less, with our heads usually buried in a tv program, a dvd, a game or on a computer.
The irony being I am just as guilty of it myself.
