A Great Day #

The thunder growled a warning
And lightning flashed in vain
It's Huey tryin to tell us
He's gunna make it rain.

Clouds are low, the sky is dark
Our power's gone for sure
I'm doin stuff on the computer
I'll lose it like before.

No power till I doan know when
No stove to cook a feed
I'll light a bloody fire
Fire bans I won't heed.

"Now settle down you silly sod"
[that's what I tell meself]
"You can open a can of beans,
There's heaps on the pantry shelf"

So I roll a smoke and ponder
What steps I'll have to take
And the flamin lights come on again
The blackout's a bloody fake.

That was how I spent my day
Not a single thing got done
The forecast says more storms,
So termorra's another one.

The spelling errors are quite deliberate. I tried to write as a more or less uneducated person might. Colloquial slang. It was just one of those days. Thank you for your feedback.

    Great Write !

Gotta hate those power outages I've lost count of how many times I've been working on a poem and then lose power. Hmmmmmm...each time it happens I tell myself in future I'll SAVE my work at regular intervals, but always forget to
    Well penned indeed

Oh,by the way...you could send some rainy days down this way if you like

Julie, we ddon't have a lot of outages here, but yesterday was a real beauty. I wnet out to potter in the garden, a storm blew in and the rain came, I came inside and sat at the computer, the power went off. Not just once either. I tried sending rain down your way but was told it's a forbidden item. have to wait for Mother Nature.

Oh, very funny. Yes blackouts are a frustrating part of life, we've come to rely on electricity so much. At least we still have pens and paper and can continue to write while the power's off (just need a candle if it's dark.) A fun write on a frustrating situation...alby

Great poem Bob. Rural power is a bit like that isn't it? Thanks for sharing with your readers.

A most frustrating day. I have a fairly large garden and just love pottering in it. When I went outside, another storm came over and it rained, when I went back inside to do something on the computer, the power went off. About five times that happened. I had to write something. Many thanks my friend for you kind words.

excellent! You did a good job on this considering it happened today. what a great write. I love that first verse. I t really gets things started. Can see you were getting a bit on the impatient side when you lost that power. A can of beans sounded pretty good to me. When we had our last black out, my love taught me some German. I never forgot it. Great, Bob.

This one was written tonight to say what I thought of the day. I am pleased that you liked it. So frustrating having power on and off again and storms coming and going. I was just outside and we have the clearest sky you could wish for with everthing lit by the full moon. It's so clear, washed by the rain today, no doubt.
