My eyes observe but cannot gauge
such unforgiving majesty,
I stand in awe of nature’s toil
gigantic rifts, untouched and free.
Inadequate to find the words
I fade to insignificance
helpless, holy, proud, divine
I flow in the experience,
Locked in the force of nature’s threat
I glimpse the hand that shapes the world,
I’m humbled by its noble voice
its language at my feet unfurled.
I stare until my eyes are worn
perfection breathes on earth and sky,
in God’s cathedral we unite
to be as one the land and I.
This symphony of calm and peace
commands life’s urgencies disband,
my eyes digest infinity
I stand alone, a grain of sand.
From paradise I take my leave
I walk away though never part,
I yield my soul to heaven’s pull
my body leaves but not my heart.
such unforgiving majesty,
I stand in awe of nature’s toil
gigantic rifts, untouched and free.
Inadequate to find the words
I fade to insignificance
helpless, holy, proud, divine
I flow in the experience,
Locked in the force of nature’s threat
I glimpse the hand that shapes the world,
I’m humbled by its noble voice
its language at my feet unfurled.
I stare until my eyes are worn
perfection breathes on earth and sky,

This is an outstanding poem
I think I will just be echoing the comments below - but I think that this has such a graceful simplicity about it - you don't care about using big words - you just want to express the simple beauty of heaven's footprint - and you do that extraordinarily well in this piece
I loved it! I wish you the best of luck in the contest!
Keep writing

Breathtakingly Beautiful
Oh Val .. this is breathtakingly beautiful, such a calm flooded over me reading this you brilliantly captured the infinitesimal of us against natures grandeur .. a stunning image of the Grand Canyon 'perfect breathes' on the page, indeed 'commands life's urgencies disband' ~
'paradise' painted in words ~
'breathes' and soaks up the incredible beauty
and I as the reader am at peace ~ Magnificent ~

Very good write here
If we could look upon the untouched beauty of our world in areas such as this then look upon the land which we have as some say have tamed spoiled and trashed what should that tell ius as human beings today .You cant change the way nature was created without messing it up its proven and it brings tears to my eyes to see the damage humanity has left behind for our children to come

this poem touched my heart from the start. it moves so freely and in sequence. like on line 17 it really spoke to me because i'm a musician. i love symphony's they flow peacefully just like your poem

Thank you for that masterfully executed journey through your eyes. Your rhyming was majestic. It painted the image perfectly so that i may know take with me a little pice of your incredible experience. thank you for this beautiful sacrament.

"Inadequate to find the words
I fade to insignificance
helpless, holy, proud, divine
I flow in the experience,"
You have so artfully and perfectly described a spiritual experience and the awe of creation.
"This symphony of calm and peace
commands life’s urgencies disband,"
Isn't it wonderful? That is exactly why we seek out the barren and forgotten places, solitude, and nature.
Your last stanza was amazing as well. I am in love with this poem! It makes me think of all of the wonders of nature that I have seen and now love.

-
Beautiful description, could be applied to any facet of nature but the Grand Canyon is a fine one.

-
Beautifully crafted, lovely rhymes without any feel of forcing. Last stanza especially nice. Great connection to the picture. Well-done.
