we are twisted tiger-print lullabies,
caught, caged in the sheets;
midnight suffocation strangles my lungs
like lies hiding behind words too important to say.
and when i wake,
your arms are all that keeps me from
falling flailing onto the bed below --
the last hope before the sheet
comes to claim me
one last time.
and i wish you were around all the time,
even as i see the disintegration of love,
fading to ashes grey on the grass,
the endings of all the things i thought would last
forever
and then some.
so hold me tighter tonight
'cause love, i think you know just as well as i do
that life doesn't last forever
and we need to grasp the better days
and wrap them up with ribbons and bows
so that one day,
when we are becoming invisible
we can bring them out
and stay in love
just a little longer.
Author notes
i worry how long happiness will last.
Whatever you want to say. Critiques, anything. :)

" we need to grasp the better days
and wrap them up with ribbons and bows". I like that phrase the best. Thank you for sharing your poetry with me.

The best things never last forever. Sad but true in my opinion. I liked the premise of this poem but think that it's slightly cliched. BUT, there is one stanza that truly impacted me and that is the very first one. I would push the envelope with that stanza & see where it takes you. This has amazing potential! Best of luck!
