Summer’s almost over and the early autumn breeze,
tugging however gently at the multi coloured leaves.
Not ready yet to make their annual journey to the ground,
a phase in natures cycle as Autumn comes around.
When the gold and scarlet leaves form a carpet oer’ the woodland floor,
and bushy tailed grey squirrels searching to suppliment their store.
And the tiring prickly hedgehogs viewing the situation,
sorting out a cosy spot to start their hibernation.
Red nosed noisy little children squabbling like thieves,
seeking the biggest conker midst the moist and rustling leaves.
Grown ups exercising dogs, and themselves as well,
who gets the most enjoyment is sometimes hard to tell.
Joggers hot and panting, their rosy faces gleam with sweat,
hoping to slim their bodies down,or perhaps to win a bet.
Don’t like to be spoken to, because' they’re out of breath,
like to show they're enjoying it,yet look like warmed up death.

I like it
I did spot a spelling error in this line, "sorting out a cosy spot to start their hibernation." I think you were trying for "cozy". Thanks for entering and good luck.

Many thanks, glad you like "Summer's End," on this side of the atlantic
"Cosy" is and always has been spelt with an "S" in all the English Dictionaries, many "Americanisms have crept into the English Language some of which I have outlined in my poem "Americanisms"
....Best Wishes...George...

Great ( an understatement really)
I love this and had to chuckle when I read about the joggers. Hope all is well with you.

I love this one. Out here in thecountry we don't have joggers but I have seen them trying so hard in the cities, to get rid of a few pounds. You have made me a nice picture of autumn over there. Some day I should go and have a look. Very well done.
