It was like we never left:
lame jokes and bad puns,
twisting everything into
perverted comments,
laughs and memories of when
we first saw each other,
with a few well-timed
awkward moments thrown in
for good measure.
We all needed this, I think:
a chance to sit around and relax,
drink cider,
not think about homework
or midterms
or the fact that real life
is running towards us like a stolen horse.
So tell another joke, Josh:
one about frogs, so Kathy can
squeal and we can watch,
or maybe goad Nathan into an
argument about the Cubs.
We aren't quite ready to leave
to continue the rest of our lives.
