Summer Of 67.

  Elephant bells

ring freedom,
as long, wavy locks

stream wildly
beneath daisy chains

in the Haight-Ashbury breeze.

Woodsmoke with a
tint of hemp,
and peaceful folk
draped in beads
annoy the straights
while wending thier way
down psychodelicate paths.

don't want to leave without a comment

as one who hasn't been there neither in time nor space back then, I can tell you that I like the path you follow in your description. The impressions are basic (seeing, hearing, smelling, feeling) and that makes them clear for everyone who knows what you're talking about. Then again, for those who oppose(d) the hippie thoughts you state the peaceful ideas of the movement. Time's never wasted on your poems (though I don't know what elephant bells are - question of vocab here).

elephant bells are delightfully huge pants only at the bottom,

that splay out and around like bells, with your ankles inside for clappers. they were fun to wear, and looked so bizarre in a straight leg pants era. LOL

Don't know about you but I still have my elephant bells. Funny how things come full circle, lava lamps, peace medallions and beads are back in fashion. Now if only we could get sit in on the lawn of DC. Kinda sad seeing those same people who protested the VN war conforming. hmmm....
The brilliance of your work sparkles and shines. You have a way of capturing moments in time that makes a walk down memory lane so clear you can still see the foot prints on the path.
Good luck in the contest. Thank you for sharing your memories.
