The Two Sides

Smiles so honest and willing.
Tears form in their vision from any sad story.
Screams and laughter escape from any shocking moment.
Intelligence, skill, and talent are all rewarded.

Dirt smeared upon their face.
Teeth stained from alcohol & grease glued to their heads.
Concrete they lay on each night - winter or summer.
Strangers pass by the garbage of the city, without any care.

Rosy cheeks and teeth shine so white from excitement.
Loving parents celebrate their college acceptance.
Parties are the wildest and the most fun ever.
They feel the grandest emotion ever.

Eyelids closing.
Their lives seem so worthless to live.
Harmful degree of souls murder the innocent but poor.
They watch from the sidelines as everyone feels warmth.

Running in the tall, green weeds captives their soul.
They laugh and smile full of grace and luck.
Unpacking their lunch for the beautiful day is such a pleasure.
Until you notice a small pile of dirt, unworthy of any attention.

The rain pounds upon their weak heads.
They run to find shelter, anywhere but the concrete.
Seeing a tree, so graceful and pure, they rush their souls to it.
That’s when they feel human - when someone notices them.
