A Walk Among the Wings

There's a swell in the wood this night
like a breath taken by a soul long departed
The fog becomes a blanket
and the insects and smaller mammals scurry

All manner of light fades from sight
replaced by a glow, not from above
but rather from the fog, ghostlike
And a stirring can be heard

They say she lived a painful life
and that she left one day, eons ago
Some say the new world, others the next
but none truly understand her pain

The trees of that wood, they knew.
They saw her at their door, the tears
They saw the marks left by mans rage
And they felt a kindred soul therein

So in their ancient wisdom, they sent her wings
tiny ones, fluttering all about, calling.
Those wing spoke to her of love
of things unseen, but attainable

And she walked with them, deep into the fog
as she walked, her feet left the ground
the wings consumed her, completed her
She gave in to them, and she was loved

So when you walk these hallowed woods
and you hear a rustling on the breeze
Understand that it's not to be feared
but rather understood, and believed

For what was once a shattered soul, bent
living a life on her knees, comfortless
Is now an angel, watching, protecting
Ever walking in love, here among the wings.

Author notes

I'm feeling a dreadful urge to eat "candy clouds of lullaby".

A contest entry

Not sure how this looks, but it feels right. Looking to expand if anyone can see where.

    Good

I have to say that I like this, it is not very often that I do not like something that you have written. I like the writes you post that just come from the heart. I am not saying that this doesn't come from the heart, what I am saying is there is a different feel from your contest entry writes to the ones that you post that have a powerful personal experience or emotion behind them.
