No face lift for me

Each joy, each sigh, each bitter sweet memory
has left a trail upon my skin.
Every pain, every pleasure so precious and dear
is etched in the creases.

I may look old and haggard to the outside eye
as years pass by,
I still have no desire for the surgeon’s knife
whilst I can smile and remember my life.

Climbing mountains and travelling the world,
spirit of adventure that couldn’t be held.
Fast cars and night clubs, wine and romance
creating the memories to savour or regret.

Crow’s feet echo my glimmering eyes
reflections of a life.
I can see the days when I was young,
falling in love and out,
until the one who made my heart smile.

Laughter of children spiralling to teenage rebellion,
picnics on beaches, trips to the parks.
Their first loves, broken hearts, graduations in life
all leave their mark.

Now as they settle, children of their own,
I am a granny, new memories are begun,
no need to look young, and thus dear surgeon
I say no to your knife

Author notes

My word is face, it just happened there was a discussion about cosmetic surgery on my radio at the time so I have gone with 'face lift'.

Many thanks Legend, I'm an oddball as a child I wanted look like my great granny who was cutely creased, she was a dinky wrinkly at 4 foot nowt on a fag paper. If you remember the late great Les Dawson's impression of two women mouthing to each other well that was her.

Too true,I couldn't agree more. We can all grow old gracefully and a little disgracefully with any luck!

Best of luck in the contest

Absolutely I intend to grow old with decorum and dignity but also in disgrace.
