Unusual Ending -- a Victory for Love

Missing image
Reason for divorce?

My husband is a brilliant sociologist ...

Sobs shredded the silence in the packed Court room, suffocating her.

The Family Advocate will complete the necessary documentation. This Court may not hear emotional testimony.

No divorce could separate them.

She and their five children were at his death-bed, two years later: united in Love.

.

Author notes

This is a true story about a very special family, that loves God intensely, and that accepts all He allows to happen in their lives.

I wrote this especially for a gifted young man, my son, in remembrance of October 10, 1989, and for all of my lovely children, to rejoice in Love.

The photo is of my son, beloved as he is, a hero, like all of my other children.

Prompt: Short story, 55 words.

"United in love" are the words that stuck with me in this one. Even divorce has no power to dissolve the bond forged in the furnace of love. Best wishes in the contest.

    Sincerely,
    Leo Long

The human heart and mind can be incomprehensible. Yet, as you note, love can fill in the gaps when nothing else can.

The 55 word story is an interesting form, so much to say, but so little opportunity, that atmosphere and dialogue relate what would take pages of telling.
There is more to this story, of course - how she starts with praise and ends up speechless in court questions why they are there at all. The last line shows that man cannot separate what was joined. Brilliant. Best of luck!

It does not end here. Corporeal distorting interference is as transient as the history of this world - a glitch in spacetime. Ack.
