I hear the lost cries for help
they are whispers rushing my head
with it's pleas for some faith
The whimpers sound so sharp
they slice my very thoughts
and leave me without hope
The thick air chokes me
so I cannot cry myself to sleep
it seems I am forced,
the young and old go crazy
I sometimes stare in the mirror
to see if I can piece the pieces together
I see now a stranger
who is sickly, lost, and broken
I am alone
when I am surrounded by many
the days grow long
the nights grow longer
I have grown to believe that
the only cure is You

Your sadness and longing are well-expressed in this poem.
The ending is sweet and hopeful.

My fiance read this with me, he's in the Army Reserves, but in 2001 he was sent to Iraq. He said sometimes those feelings are all too familiar...and that often times he feels the fear of being back there. (I pray that Never happens)
We think you did an exceptional job writing this poem, obviously...it came from your heart. I personally love the ending, in which you basically said, that because of your wife.... things will be and have gotten better.
Beautiful!

A poignant reminder of the aftermath of war: even the so-called intact, unwounded bring home scars. Well-crafted and powereful, although painful to read. My very best wishes to your and your beloved.

Semper Fidelis
This is a beautifully-written poem. It brought tears to my eyes, and I'd like to say please keep up the good work, and I thank you from the bottom of my heart, for supporting all my brothers and sisters in arms. Ooh-Rah.

Cannot imagine what you must go through, looking in the mirror and trying to find yourself between the shrapnel in your memory, and shards of what was - and what is now.
