Work

I buckled down and went to work
Forgot about the time
I watched the others with a smirk
For I was in my prime
I jumped right in, rolled up my sleeves
I knew hard work is what achieves
I jumped right in
I jumped right in
For work is what the mind perceives

Now if you love the work you do
It really isn’t work
You will obtain what you pursue
And get that little perk
Four letter word that’s not too bad
It keeps you young and that’s not sad
Four letter word
Four letter word
Say a four letter word? Egad!

This is National poetry week
We work to write a verse
We point our muse to thoughts unique
We dare not pen a curse
We like to rhyme creating art
We’ll work real hard and do our part
We like to rhyme
We like to rhyme
And put the horse before the cart

With truth, humour, rhyme meter and form, what more could I say?

Oh yes it happens to be a bloody good poem too!!!

Thoroughly enjoyed by both judges and a clear winner on both scorecards.

    Great stuff!

Why do I never hear about these days?

I wasn't even aware of national poetry day. I need to be more informed about some things.

This has a wonderful flow, as always, Sis. I think it's very true that if a person loves what they do in life, it can't be considered work. What's that saying? Do what you love and you will never work a day in your life. Something like that.

Thanks for sharing your talent and best of luck in the contest.

Probably because it is National Poetry day in the UK not the states

Yeah, that would explain it. I'm in Canada, I'm not sure if there's a poetry day here or not. Pretty cool that they have a day for poetry in the UK, though.

    You speak truth, YESSA!
This was wonderful, every line true and what a joy to read.
I loved it, but I have never read anything you have written that I didn't like or love.
Your poems always make me excited, laugh, cry, or feel elated.
    Love ya,
    Bell,

Perhaps this is the time to say to the world that although you are laden with talent that the reason your poetry is so good is that you work harder than anyone. I have seen this with my own eyes. Being clever alone is never as productive as being clever and industrious. You have shown in this poem in both description and example exactly what I say. Bravo!

I don't know about you, but writing is not work for me. It is second nature, it is who I am.

This is fantastic! But then again, from the Form Queen, what would I expect, nothing less than what I saw, A great form! And a fun read!

Best of luck in this contest!

    and love

    Nyetta
