Like Every Year (Set the clock)

Spinning in circles
dancing in rain
ride my bike
then scrape my knee.
Dress up was simple,
pretend was easy.
Nothing really mattered.
As long as my room stayed clean.
Turn the clock hands forward
like every year.
Homework
dances
best friends forever
and boys.
Shoes, belt, and hat match
as do shirt and pants.
Who your seen with
is just as important
as everything else.
And we turn back the clock
like every year.
We're friends with everyone
and young at heart.
Going forward another time
she's not cool
and he's so hott.
The social world matters
and you grow up to fast.
So you set the clock back
like every year.
Realizing you can't go back
only move forward.
Time only lets you jump one hour.

Please tell me what you think

    Awesome!

I love the way you worded this and took me on a time travel within my own memories. I totally agree with what you're saying here.. and yet, it makes me sad. Not to mention insanely nostalgic for the old days of elementary school and hanging out in the neighborhood, before the politics of high school and beyond forever clouded our minds. Thank you so much for reminding me.
