Didn’t want you to love me
Nor, to ask where I’d been
Didn’t want you to hug me
Not back then
All I needed,
All I needed was a friend.
Just needed someone to hold my hand
when I was all alone
someone who would understand,
not judge me, right or wrong,
I didn’t want some one to love me
and wanna tag-a-long
All I needed,
all I needed was a friend.
Didn’t need someone regretting
all the things that could have been
Didn’t need some one forgetting
I could live without them
Thought we could make it,
it seemed so easy back then
Thought we could take it
but here I am alone again,
when all I needed,
all I need was a friend.

So should I wonder ...
that we have had similar thoughts? This poem holds much meaning for me as I often ponder the same sort of feeling. A good friend offers one unconditional love, which is what you have shared in your poem. I like it ... and glad to know that there are others like me! j

Sad reflection on life. Truth is we all need someone - an enemy might do??? Not sure of your tenses in final line - do you mean "need is" or "needed was"?
