I hold up my Etch-a-Sketch
of life and shake it desperately.
My thoughts, my actions,
not even my words,
will erase from the
dreaded gray screen.
I reach for the discarded box
and realize the etches cannot
be erased.
It is a newer model;
one that will cause
a slip of the dial
to put your masterpiece
at stake.
The aluminum powder,
scraped from the screen,
has long gone
and left me to mend
the destruction to the surface.
I etch across my mistakes,
only making them
harder to deal with.
Because every scratch is
a stabbing note to my heart;
making the shame
and deceit
worse.

Wow, that had absolutely great imagery. Your life as a etch-a-sketch board and that no matter what, you can't erase your mistakes. The first two lines are especially powerful, you shakes desperately at it, but it just won't go away. The poem flowed nicely. Good use of the title too. =)

The first two lines blew me away; compared to them, as I scrolled through the rest of the poem, I just kept going back up to the top again and again, rereading them,

Absolutely fantastic, seriously!! To think of life like an Etch-a-Sketch, imagine if we could erase memories just like that; one flick of the wrist and then they're gone ... taht was just ..
