Silk And Dew

On misty Autumn mornings when the dew is on the grass
the air is so much cooler than the earth,
vapours rising slowly swirled as chilly zephyrs pass
the sun comes up to herald new day’s birth.

The hedgerows are be-decked in tasty berries black and red
as beads of moisture settle on the ground,
each little drop is strung upon the finest silken thread
a thousand diamonds sparkle all around.

The sun not at its highest but with strength to lift the chill
and summer days have yet to lose their hold,
the seasons changing slowly, for today Autumn is still
while green trees change their coats to red and gold.

Take advantage of the sunshine, for the Winter days are grey
Mother Nature has decreed how it shall be,
invigorate your senses so you feel alive today
for Autumn is a wondrous sight to see.

I'm not a lover of Autumn although I do think the colours are beautiful
it's the knowledge as you say of all those fog bound gloomy winter days to follow. I sometimes wish I could just hibernate until about April.

Many thanks Pat, I adore Autumn but like you, the thought of hibernation is very appealing on grey days, but I'd have to wake up for Christmas

Thank you for this song of autumn. "each little drop is strung upon the finest silken thread" is a lovely complement to this wonderful border.

Autumn is my fave time of year, wish I could write it but its when my artist comes in full with all the colour going on. You have caught that feel of that special quality of the season wonderfully. Shudders at the cobwebs as that means spiders are lurking....

Nice job. It is a lovely nature poem. The imagery brought a smile to my face. I enjoy early autumn and winter the most. Winter is the longest season here and can be trying near the end.

A beautiful description of this time of year, Sue. The rhyme and flow are, as always, flawless. Well penned. I thoroughly enjoyed the read.
