As nightly shadows fall
How brightly shine the lights
A welcome to their call
My cottage is nestled in
A little grove of trees
For shade and beauty my friend
A most welcome place to be
So step inside and rest awhile
Your journey has been long
I'll light the fire to keep you warm
And I'll play your favorite song
I'm glad you decided to stop by
It's been a long time you know
I make a stew for me and you
We'll eat it by the fire's glow

I think back in time and remember when I would walk home after work (before I got married). I would reach the corner and I could see my house, the picture window had the lamp lit and the kitchen lights were also on. Before I even got to the steps, I could smell chili and corn pone, or Johnnycake as my Mother called it. There was something about her chili that drifted through the neighborhood. How I would love to smell it one more time.
