I can but pray…(Non-Entry)
What lies in future, none can rightly tell
nor can, with surety, predict the weather
I can but pray my loved ones may stay well.
Predictions that the fortune-tellers sell
have less reliance than a broken feather.
What lies in future, none can rightly tell.
I wish I knew to cast a charm or spell
that we might all age happily together.
I can but pray my loved ones may stay well.
It’s thirty years since my wife Edna fell
while stepping from the top deck to the nether.
What lies in future, none can rightly tell.
The ankle that she broke oft’ starts to swell
and drives her to the limit of her tether.
I can but pray my loved ones may stay well.
Of late, she has angina pains as well.
So hard for her to bear it altogether.
What lies in future, none can rightly tell.
I can but pray my loved ones may stay well.

Dear Hugh and Edna:
My internet candle has always been lit for you and the huguenauties throughout these past few years. I wish to express my gratitude to you and everyone for their continuous support during my times of need and know that even though I am not here in person, my thoughts and prayers are always with you through cosmic forces.

Dear Hugh
This is such a beautiful piece of poetry. Packet Full of reality/realism and yet there is something about it which is so dream-like and soothing.
Much Love and Hugs.

I am sorry for all the crap you've had to put up with. It isn't fair, and yes I know, who said life is supposed to be fair...besides me? No one.
I'm sorry for Edna, but of course you also, it's a lot to bear.
But I'm not here to depress you so here, have this, I found it outside wandering around ------->
I think it bites.

Dearest King
I am so sad to hear our Queen has been very ill. I hope she soon makes a speedy recovery and her ankle settles down so she can walk once again.
And you take care of yourself dear Hugh, if you go down who will look after the two of you? I might just have to take a trip across the Tasman as your Personal Assistant (PERKCAO) and massage Edna's ankle and look after both of you.
Love Jen

Beautiful and tender
The villanelle is a beautiful form, especially for emotions and wishes like this, which are emphasised by repetition. This has dignity and reserve, but touches me with the tenderness of concern and anxiety for Edna. We are with you in wishing her well, and I hope our support helps you take care of her and yourself.

May prayer in itself
and the belief in the prayer
stave off future angst.

It breaks our heart to see someone we love in pain.
And being not capable to take at least half of the pain to ourselves, makes us feel as if we have failed somehow.
I'm so sorry that Edna is feeling ill, am happy to know she is back home though.
Your Villanelle has a wonderful rhythm and shows how much you care for those you keep close to your heart
Love and hugs to you and Edna

Dear Hugh,
Having seen first hand how Edna's ankle swells I can understand the pain she goes through.
Also how her illness and recent hospitalization has drained the both of you. I'm pleased to hear that Edna is feeling much better.
Just remember your friends are here for you too as it's not an easy task being a caregiver I know as I had to be when Bob was ill.
A very beautiful Villanelle my dear friend.
Love Bea
