Oh,the pain of rising this day.
Not a physical one, in anyway.
A once strong and noble steed,
Sleeps undisturbed,... without heed.
Many years before, during her reign,
She performed at the top of her game.
Aboard was a child, eight years old,
With every confidence then to mold.
Years slowly passed, the little girl grew,
The mare taught the child, everything she knew.
Many ribbons and trophies, then collected,
Time was better, than ever expected.
The girl became a woman, brave and bold,
The mare grew tired, weary and old.
Away from home the mare did reside,
Just for a short time, to you I confide.
Returning was a horse not to recognize,
Her appearance of undue compromise.
Time took it's toll, health now fleeting,
Days forever gone of champion competing.
Alas, In sorrow she is no more,
My heart grieves the mare, for-evermore.
My child she took under fledgling wing,
A gentle companion through everything.
Never did I worry, nor fear for safety's sake,
Never did I second guess making a mistake.
My eyes burn, in hot flooding tears,
My woman child broken hearted, it appears.
Where do horses go when they leave this earth?
Does God reward those, that are more than their worth?
Do horses go to Heaven?
Please tell me it's so.
