Hungry
are the wretched
digging through the garbage
looking for the wasteful remnants
of those fortunate enough to consume.
The poor dream of a better life
and to be acknowledged
never being
hungry.
are the wretched
digging through the garbage
looking for the wasteful remnants
of those fortunate enough to consume.
The poor dream of a better life
and to be acknowledged
never being
hungry.

Truth and sadness blend well in this write.
You've said so much in your choice of words.
Thank You for entering! -
oh my this is so touching and true

Nicely done rictameter. Sorrowful topic. How sad that the "haves" have so much that they are losing the understanding of what it is to BE hungry. Not just a 'between meals' hunger, but a conscious "I haven't eaten for over 24 hours" appreciation of the vital role of food, and the need we all share for it. Excellent "Hungry are the wretched" and "those fortunate enough to consume."

Just before I read this I was listening to the debate. Instead of answering questions about the future they both point fingers about the past because they have no answer. My son is homeless but he lives on disability because he has a crippling disease called anklosing spondelitis. I don't know if he's ever eaten out of a trash can before, but he has worked at fast food places that throws bleach or other cleaners on food that has to be thrown out just so the homeless can't eat it. Not to keep rats or insects away; MacDonalds does that to the leftover fries, etc. So does Burger King. We are such a loving bunch of assholes.
BTW ... nice rictameter. -
Gosh..
Such a very painful reality for many, and you
hit the nail on head with this one when it comes to
'spotlighting' their plight. excellent my friend.

Very well done. I like this alot. It is a great message and I like the form as well. I did a richtameter once too. I like what you have done with this.

The first line reminds me of the B-Attitudes. "Blessed are the poor..." Yet, you give a crude awakening to reality of poverty. The line requesting simple acknowledgment cries to the real deep longing of the impoverished.

wow such a sad thing really. As rich as this country is... and can be... that people go hungry. Have no place warm and safe to sleep. And die of various illness that are preventable. This is sooooo sad really. This however, is an excellent write. Great job!

A sad and most poigant theme for this poem, but a very finely executed form as I see it! bravo... bravo...
