The Art of Drama or "What You Will"

Drama is ever my delight
Though acting's now beyond me quite.
My brain denies me memory
Though skills allow me mimicry.
My legs do creak
And when I speak
My breath comes fast.
I gasp and sigh
Oh me, oh my
My die is cast!

Today my joy and wonder rest
On theatre-going as a quest.
The greatest actors of the age
Are my delight, grief to assuage.
I've seen them all
Short, broad and tall.
Their magic cast
Excitement's spell.
I knew it well -
A captive fast.

So praise to Shakespeare, all else too
And even those who failure rue.
They live and breathe in drama's thrall:
I answer to its beck and call.
While breath is mine
My eyes will shine
My ears will thrill
My heart will bound
At music's sound
All As I Will.

This was a real joy to read! Very well written and the flow is brilliant. I also like the rhyme pattern you have used here. I think you do like theatre a lot, have you acted in the past? I could, for one never act, that reminds me, we had a choir gathering and the tenors were putting up a skit, and I was given jsut one line and when it was time for me to deliver it, I dont know what happened to me, I kept staring at the person I was suppose to say it and kept fumbling with the words!!! Luckily my costume match with that, and the audience, I believe thought I was suppose to be acting as an insane person! lololol!!!

Hope all is well with you Joy, congrats on the HM!

    Love and light,
    Lencio

The pun on Will is not lost on me!

    Technically matchless.
Henry would not have understood your Elizabethan nuances. That does not matter at all. Thank you for your appeal to the Pastance of Theatre-going. I knew a lady who flew to London from Brisbane when she was dying of CANCER. In three weeks she saw 30 plays. Flew home and died.
Now, this poem took me back to College Days.
    Thank you for it.

Hallo Ron and thank you very much for the HM. The points are welcome too. I didn't expect the pun to pass you by but have to confess that I didn't think much of Henry's poem. Looked up some of the others and felt they were much better. Never to be compared with W.S. of course! As a monarch Elizabeth outshone him too, of course.
I really enjoyed the contest and am sad not to have caught my muse and held her for the Surrey and the King Arthur. Plenty of time yet for others, I hope.

      Joy
