You are consumed
by the contrast of my shoelaces...
I am concerned
for the colour of your soul...

wonderfully stated!!
nicely done.

Love this. I've never been able to write a poem with so few words, but this one has everything one could hope for in a poem in just 18 words, and expresses a beautiful outlook on life!!

-
amen...
why be concerned? people are people - and we duck and dive alon the smiles and the frowns of life, it's not all bad, in fact most of it is god loving good

-
Oh, this is cool. What a great idea for presentation of a serious matter.

My interesting. Perhaps both are black. Always a pleasure to read a different. Well done.

This reminds me of a quote from "The Little Prince" by Antoine de Saint-Exupéry...
"One sees clearly only with the heart. Anything essential is invisible to the eyes."
...If only we could get everyone to look beyond the laces.
Nicely done, Mat. I wish that everyone could see with your heart.

The shallowness of some put before the depth of a person's true character. Most human's see only the outward appearances and care not to judge the rest. Nice write here

Interesting contrast between the inner and outer experience of life. So few look past the shoelaces.
Very thought provoking. Great metaphor for the current superficiality embodied in the majority of those in society.

Mat,
this piece must be meaningful for you, rare for me to see you not writing rhyme.
Though the write is just eighteen words it's thought provoking.
The first couplet alludes to another being eaten up by their perspective of selected facet which they find within you.
The reference to the contrast in shoelaces may allude to a refusal to be constrained, fashioned, by walking a one way street to meet the needs only of others.
The second couplet may allude to the compassion felt for the other that can pass such judgement, for when they pass that judgement they mirror themselves.
I am a sleepyhead due to no sleep so if am way off track tip me the wink and I'll be back.
I liked the title, our concerns colour us as much as what colours the soul of others concerns us.
May you never run out of ink for your rhyme
or Free Verse
Bravo
Yvette

Contrasts and colours..
a thought provoking piece, short and totally to the point.
The use of shoelaces really spells out the negative, where I feel that the item is so immaterial, like all the other material things she loves...
Yet the trueness of heart and soul has no shades ..
a great write Mat
A message there too..
Best wishes my friend
