The cuts were hid in shame
The shame caused by sadness
The lack of pain was numbness
And it all came from a life
She didn't want to live
The many pill bottles on the counter
Mark her harrowing struggle
To gain control of her life
The stack of tattered instructions
Show how she tried
To find a way to survive
She trusts nobody
She writes what she won't speak
So the notebooks filled with ink
And the sketches done with pencil
Are filled with vulnerability
The most honest part of her
Look in her eyes
And you might see
The girl caged within
Trying to break free
